Seiuous Accident.—George Sowden, an employee at Anderson's, Lyttelton, was chipping a boiler when a piece of steel flew through his right eye into his head. He was taken to Dr Pairman's surgery, where it was found the sight was destroyed, and the eye mu.-it be removed. The operation was performed by Drs Tairmau and Guthrie. Sowden w doing well,
