AUSTRALIAN CABLE

Melbourne, March 24. The other two directors of the AngloAußtralian Bank who were found guilty of fraud, were sentenced to-day. Robert DiUy was sentenced to two years' imprisonment, and Sydney G. Allwright was ordered to pay a fine of £IOO. The Minister of Education has decided on the dismissal of 250 teachers who are in charge of unclassified schools, and a reduction in teachers' salaries of from 5 to 12 1 per cent. It has also been deteimined that reductions of a similar amount iu the salaries of all Civil Servants are also to be made. Generally speaking all salaries over £6CO are subject to the 12£ per cent, reduction. These reductions" are part of the extensive scheme of retrenchment which the Government have decided to cany out in all the brancheT of the Public Service. March 25. The principal topic in political circles is the bankruptcy of Sir G. R Dibbs. It is feared that it will have a depressing effect on Australian stock in the London market. The Argus, referring to the announcement that the bankrupt would retain the Premiership, states that it is against PnrHamentai/ usage for Sir G. R. Dibbs to continue in office. Sydney. March 25. The annual report of the Board of Health, in commenting upon the precautious taken in this colony to prevent the spread of leprosy, says that there is a considerall) amount of leprosy existing among the coloured, races in New Zealand

and Fiji, and as no measures are taken in those coloniss for the detection and segregation of lepers, the danger may become a serious menace to the wellbeing of Australia.
