THE PANAMA CANAL SCANDAL.

Paris, March 21. M. Charles De Lesseps, M. Baihant, ex-Ministor of Public Works and M. Blondiu were found guilty. The remainder of the directors were acquitted. M. Do Lesseps and M. Bloudin, in whose cases extenuating circumstances were added to the verdict, were sentenced as follows ;—M. De Lesseps to one year’s imprisonment, to run concurrently with the previous sentence. M. Baihant was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment with the loss of civil rights and fined 750.000 francs (£30,000). MM. DeLesseps, Blondin and Baihant have jointly been ordered to repay to the Panama Canal Company the sum of 375.000 francs paid to M, Baihant. M. Bristow’s committee have applied to the Chamber of Deputies to extend their powers.
