TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

Tho regular monthly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs W. Storey (chairman), P. McCaskill, T. F. Hooper, G. Levens, A. Russell, and F. R. Oldfield. Mr Bates sent an apology for non-attendance. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read— From Mrs Bryars, acknowledging receipt of and thanking the committee for the resolution of sympathy passed upon the occasion of her son’s decease. From the Rev. W. E. Cillam, thanking the committee for granting the Revs. Dellow, Butterfield, and himself the use of the school for the purpose of affording the children religious instruction, and also the staff for their assistance in organising standards. From the Education Board, stating that desks and forms had been duly forwarded.

From the same, stating that Miss Marion McCaskill had been appointed pupil teacher as from March Ist. From the same, forwarding certificates won by senior scholars, and requesting that their presentation to them might be made as public as possible. —It was agreed that the visitors for the month in conjunction with the chairman should present them at an early date. HEAD MASTER’S REPORT.

The head master’s report was as follows :

“ Sir, —I have the honor to submit my monthly report as head master of the Temuka school. The number on the roll is—Boys' 197, girls 168, total 365 ; the average attendance for the mouth ending 17th March was—Boys 154.5. girls 138.4, total 292.9. I forward for your careful study and consideration a barometrical chart of attendances, showing graphically the irregularity of attendance which has to be contended with. I enclose cheque for £4 19s 3d stationery fees. It will bo necessary for the committee to arrange re Easter holidays.— I have, etc., “ D. Ferguson, “ Head Master. “ P.S.—Attached is a memo, of school requisites, repairs, etc.” it was resolved that application be made to the Education Board for a new easel, a black-board complete, and that the chairman arrange for small supply of pencils, etc., required EASTER HOLIDAYS. On the motion of Mr Bussell, seconded by Mr Levens, it was resolved —“ That the school close for Easter holidays from Thursday, March 30th, and re-open on Monday, April 10th.” GENERAL. The chairman stated that the head master had calculated that senior pupils were charged too much for stationery supplies, and he considered that if a reduction were made more parents would pay, and the results to the committee would be as good, if not better. After discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Mr McCaskill, seconded by Mr Hooper—“ That the stationeiy fees be 6d per quarter from the second standard and upwards, and 3d per quarter below that standard.”

The secretary stated that the committee, after paying liabilities, would have £lO 9s lOd to credit of general account.

Messrs Russell and Levens wore appointed visitors for the month. Accounts to the amount of £3 5s 3d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
