WOODBURY SCHOOL TREAT.

The Woodbury School treat this year was in every way a credit to the district and spoke well for the good management of the committee and headmaster, Mr Greaves. In the earlier part of the day on Friday the weather looked so threatening that it was thought then that the treat would have to be postponed, but as it cleared up a large gathering of children, their parents, and friends, put in an appearance at one o’clock. The sports during the day consisted chiefly of running, for which money prizes were given. The races were got up according to ages, and were ran over and over again till each child that first started in the race got a prize. Below is a list of winners. Besides running, there were games of cricket, football, rounders, and every form of picnic game. The races and games were held in Mr Flatman’s paddock, kindly lent by him for the occasion. During the afternoon the children and adults were entertained to tea and cakes at the school ground, and after more games the children were reassembled at G. 30 p.m., and each of them received a bun. The proceedings closed about 7 o’clock and everyone went away thoroughly satisfied with enjoyment. The committee have to thank the young ladies of the district and ex-pupils for their very valuable assistance in serving out tea and edibles. No school prizes were given out at the picnic, but at the next meeting of the committee the question of prizes will be considered and something decided upon. Race List, boys.
