An extensiv© fire is now raging in tbe Puhipuhi Forest and great destruction is threatened. This is ooe of the largest kauri forests in the North Island. At Paimereton North tbe case against Harry Laing, the boxer, of robbing a man named Young of money the latter had won from him was dismissed, the magistrate remarking that it was a case of " diamond cut diamond." The protest in connection with the champion whaleboat race at Auckland has been dismissed and the race has been awarded to tha Wa»fc9»ata crew,
