SPORTING.
WANGANUI RACES. The first day’s racing under tha auspices of the Wanganui Jockey Club took place on Tuesday last. About 2000 persons were present. The sum of £3942 was was passed through the totalisator. An accident occurred in the Hurdle Race, Druid falling and breaking his rider’s collar bone. The following are the results :
Hurdle Handicap, of 100 eovs; miles and a distance, over 8 jumps,—Mr Brewer’s Dusk, 1 ; Mr Ellingham’s Denbigh, 2; Mr H. Hughe’s Patent Safety, 3. Time—4min 20sec.
Hack Hurdle Race.—iroha, 1, Six others ran.
Sapling Stakes, 50 sovs, for two-year-olds; 6furlongs.—Mr R. Pack's Oromorne, 1 ; Mr D. Scott’s Tornado, 2 ; Mr J. George’s Confident filly, 3. Time—lmin 2 3 sth sec.
Wanganui Cup, of 603 sovs; second horse to receive 50 sovs from the stakes ; third horse to save his stakes—Mr W. Bobbet’s Tetford, I ; Mr W. Bobbet’s Libeller. 2 ; Mr W. Douglas’ Waitiri, 3. Time—3min 67 l-sth sec.
Selling Race, of 50 sovs ; 1J mile,— Mr D, Scott’s Jolt, 1 ; Mr E. McElwain’s Ringleader, 2, Tima—2rain 20 4-sth secs,
Hack Race, of 25 sovs ; one# round. —Remn, 1 ; Blarney, 2. Dividends £SO Is and £35 17s. Flying Handicap, of 100 sova, second horse to receive 10 sovs from 'he stakes. — Messrs S'nok and Conroyd’s Miss Dargon, 1 ; Mr F. H. Hill's Rumor, 2; Mr P. F. Tancred’s Revoke, 3. Time—lmin 17 3 6th sec.
