AH but the three principal sufferers by the late explosion of chemicals at Milton are out of the doctor’s hands. No further hope is entertained of Mr James Reid ultimately gaining the use of his eye. In the other two cases—Mr Strachan’s son, and Mr Lane’s daughter—there is an improved perception of light in each, and it is believed they will be fully restored to sight.
In May last a laborer named Foster punchased from McDavitt, licensee of tbe Carlton Hotel, Christchurch, a pint of beer which the latter delivered in a bottle previously used for oxalic acid. The beer acted as a poison, and Foster was very ill. On Tuesday, ho brought an action against the publican, and gained a verdict for £23 with costs, £8 9s.
In the Lytteltup,;l|aj;bor, near the Harbor Board’s the body of Richard King, a seanMn .employed on the Gipsy, trading to the Bays, v.as found on Tuesday. King, who was addicted to drink, was missed about a month ago. At the R.M. Court, Timaru, on Tuesday last, a woman named Bray, an old offender, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment for stealing a grate from an unoccupied house. In Chambers in Dunedin on Tuesday, Judge Williams fixed the trial of John Kean v. Jane Kean and Thomson Aylward to be taken at Invercargill. In this matter the petitioner sues for a divorce from hia wife, and for £4OO damages against tbe co-respondent. The declaration alleges that the petitioner (a laborer) was married to the respondent, then a widow, at Invercargill, in September 1881, that they lived together at Winton till January following, when she left him, and that she has since been living with the respondent as his wife in various parts of Southland.
