Messrs Davitt, Healey and Quinn, who were imprisoned for six months in Kilmainham, in February last, for refusing to find sureties for their good behaviour, as directed by the Court of Queen’s Bench, have been released.
In the House of Commons to-day, Lortl E. Fitzmaurice, tinder-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, stated in reply to a question, that H.M.S.’s Dragon and Dryad had been instructed to protect British interests in Madagascar.

The Standard suggests that H.R.H. should be appointed Governor of New South Wales or Victoria. Pabis, June 4. Telegrams are to hand from Madagascar, reporting that the Hovas have made overtures of peace to the French Commander, and that the French Government will exact a war indemnity from the Malagasies. These statements have not yet been officially confirmed.
The annual general meeting of the Suez Canal Company was held here today. The Chairman, Count Ferdinand De Lesseps, presided, and in moving the adoption of the report, stated that the Directors had decided, a year ago, upon the construction of a second canal, and that negotiations, to which a favorable issue was expected, were now preceeding in England for the purpose of securing the necessary land.

The two youths, Ogden and Sutherland, who were found guilty of committing atrocious murders in April last, in the Epping District, were executed today. __
