Enormous damage was caused by a fire in a bazaar at Peshawar which originated in a wood market. British and Indian troops were called out to aid the police. The fire brigade had to destroy a large area with dynamite to prevent the spread of the flames, which . are still raging. More than 1000 houses have been destroyed.
