FRANKLEY SCHOOL

MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS. WORK OF YEAR REVIEWED. The annual meeting of householders of the Frankley school district was presided over by Mr. F. A. Lee. Reporting on the year’s activities, Mr. Lee stated that the period had been a busy one. Though a great deal had been accomplished, much still had to be done to complete the work the committee had undertaken. However, the excavation work had been practically completed. It was hoped that the top-dressing and levelling would be finished before the spring, when the sowing of grass .would be done. As soon as the top-dressing was completed the pommittee intended to plant a hedge along the top of the banks and suitable shrubs up the side to hold it in place. The school picnic held early in the year proved a much more successful gathering than previously owing to the increased attendance of adults. The euchre evenings were again, being well patronised. The profits from these helped considerably towards the ground improvements. Cribbage evenings for the men of the district were popular. To assist in providing amuserrient for the younger people who did not play cards a badminton set had been purchased, and it was expected that immediately after the term holidays play would continence. .

The committee congratulated the teachers and pupils on the high standard of work ‘during the year. The reports received by the committee from the visiting officials had been excellent. The school had excellent results in the boys and girls’ club work, and this year Frankley school was placed third on the list for the Cuthbert Shield. The school hives had done well during

the year, and now that the school possessed its own extractor this phase of school work could proceed smoothly. Timber had been purchased to build two more hives. , . The committee expressed appreciation

to the Education Board for assistance and thanked particularly Mr. C. H. Moore, the board’s architect. Thanks were also due to the residents of the district who assisted with ground improvements. . . .
