PROPOSAL REJECTED

ELTHAM DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. COST PRECLUDES CONSIDERATION. The cost involved was too great to allow of the establishment of a district high school at Eltham, the Taranaki Education Board was advised yesterday by the Director of Education, Mr. N. T. Lamboume. The application to the department was made after considerable agitation on the part of Eltham residents and school committees.

“After giving the matter full and careful consideration the Minister cannot accede to the request,” wrote Mr. Lambourne. “The cost involved would be substantial and the present state of the finances precludes favourable consideratim being given at present.” The architect was instructed to accede to the request of the Southland Education Board that a design and specifications of the movable type of building in use in the Taranaki district be forwarded. "There is nothing 'more we can do,” said Mr. W. H. Jones, who presided. ELTHAM TALKIES. “WE’RE RICH AGAIN.” A colourful and highly amusing example of the subtle ways a woman has for arriving at her objective is given in the hilarious farce-comedy “We’re Rich Again.” This production, which is studded with ridiculously funny situations and has a cast of mirth provokers including Edna May Oliver, Billie Burke, Marion Nixon, Reginald Denny and Joan March, will be shown at Eltham to-night. It tells the story of a demure country girl whose ambition is to, be of service to others. In helping them, she also helps herself. She finds her aristocratic city relations besieged by persistent bill collectors and, at the same time, in the throes of preparing for the wedding of an older daughter. The locale of the story is Santa Barbara, California, but the scenes were filmed against the background of one of the lovely homes in Beverley Hills. Buster Crabbe,, champion of the last Olympic Games, does some fine diving and swimming in the picture.
