PRECAUTIONS IN BRITAIN \ _ LOCAL BODIES’ CO-OPERATION. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 5.5 p.m. London, April 16. Sir John Gilmour, Home Secretary, stated in the House of Commons to-day that a special department of the Home Office was being formed to act as a channel for communication to local authorities in England and Wales details of the measures it would be necessary for them to take to organise local services for safeguarding the civil population against the effect of an air attack. The first important duty of the new department would be to issue a general circular outlining the public policy and. the direction in which the co-operation of the local authorities would be required. Instructions as to precautions to be taken by individual members of the public would follow. He promised the House further information later.
