Cattle Disease.
Farmers on the beach country in the Okato district, state that their cows have been attacked this season by a disease that is new to their experience. Cows have suffered on several farms. They become very restive and when in the bails start kicking, with their front legs. They attempt to lie down in the bail and are extremely difficult to milk. All the teats begin to peel and if the trouble is not checked the udders. become almost red raw and the cows have to be turned out. It is understood by those who have had veterinary advice that the disease is a form of indigestion caused by the cows having had too much dry fibrous food and not enough green food. The dry spell in the early part of the summer has caused the grass to run to seed and dry up rapidly.
