FITZROY ANGLICANS

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH. ’ _ f MEETING OF PARISHIONERS. The annual meeting of parishioners of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Fitzroy, was held in the parish hall on Thursday night, the Rev. G. W. G. Griffin presiding. The balance-sheet disclosed a debit of £9B, showing the position to be £3B worse than at this time last. year. The principal items included in the £9B were bank overdraft and outstanding cheques £43 10s. Assistance was received from the ladies’ guild, £57 10s being given,to the general fund. A garden party givenby Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Grover realised £9. During the year the envelope system had been reorganised and promised to be the major source of income. Thanks were due to Mrs. Binns for. her energetic and successful work in this behalf. ' i

During the latter part of the year the Rev. W. S. C. Stephens was appointed ' vicar of Waerenga-a-hika and left early in January. His place was taken by Mr. Griffin, of Taumarunui. Thanks were due to all who had successfully carried on the branches of the church work during the year, with' particular reference to Archdeacon F. G. Evans and lay readers from St. Mary’s. He was/sorry to see the state of the accounts, said Mr. R. Day, in moving the adoption of the report. The position, however, was not hopeless, and the large increase in offertories during the last few months was a good sign. Bell Block had not been able to contribute as much as previously. Mr. Day paid a tribute to the work of the women of the parish. A major, decrease in the revenue, during the year was from social evenings which fell from £34 to £9.

The adoption of. the report was: seconded by Mr. A.. S. Roberts, who said there were many favourable signs of the financial position being considerably improved next year. The chairman announced that-he-had appointed Mr. W. C. Gentles as vicar’s warden. Other officers were elected. as follows: People’s warden, Mr. R. Day; vestry,. Messrs. J. Pickering, E. Colson, W. Griffiths, G. Shoemark, R. B. Jones, H. Pearce, A. S. Roberts and Mrs. L. F. Binns; auditor, Mr. Thomas; diocesan synodsman, Mr. G. Hutton; representatives on the Taranaki Archdeaconry Board, Messrs.- R. Day, W. C. Gentles and) G. Hutton. • The balance-sheet of the ladies’ guild showed receipts at £125 IGs sd. The Sunday school fifhd was in credit to the extent.of £2 3s lid. Mr. Day suggested the consolidation of all the debts, thus allowing the vestry to commence another year unhampered by many small liabilities. After general discussion Messrs. Day,. Hutton and Roberts were, appointed a. committee to consider the financial position and report to parishioners.
