MARGIN OF ONE GAME
TENNIS AT WHANGAMOMONA. SHIELD COMPETITION MATCH. An exciting match was played at Whangamomona during the week-end, when Kohuratahi met Whangamomona in the second round of the Vice-Presi-dent’s Shield competition. Playing conditions were ideal and the match resolved itself into a contest between Kohuratahi’s men and Whangamomona’s women players, there being a weakness in Whangamomona’s combined doubles teams. Kohuratahi won 12 sets (107 games) and Whangamomona 12 sets (108 games). After the match Mr. Law, president of the Kohuratahi club, commended the friendly rivalry between the clubs and the splendid sportsmanship shown by the teams. Details of play Men’s singles: G. Hunt lost to Mrs. Buckenham 3— Mrs. Kirton lost to Mrs. Clopatt Men’s doubles: Bacon and Burch beat Gilmour and Mouton. 6—3, Law and Casey lost to Anderson and Childs 5—6, C. and E. Cleland beat Robinson and G. Mouton 6—3.
Women’s doubles: Misses Bacon and Savage lost to Misses N. and E. Geever 2—6, Misses C. Cleland and A. Law lost to Mrs. Buckenham and Mrs. Clopatt 2—6.
