CLIMBING ON EGMONT
(■OCTOGENARIAN” WOMEN’S FEATS. OPINIONS OF PARK BOARD. Egmont National Park Board members did not view very seriously an objection raised by Mr. P. Thomson at yesterday’s meeting of the board against the practice of octogenarians, elderly women and others who have climbed the mountain when more advanced in age than is customary for climbers. “It is not right that these people should Abe allowed to climb,” said Mr. Thompson. “H any of them had a heart attack on the top, what would happen?” “Does Mr. Thomson think it disparaging to the mountain that these elderly people should be able to climb it?” asked Mr. W. G. Walkley, who said it would be impossible to discourage people from the adventure of climbing once they had set their hearts on it. Mr. Thomson still protested, but the discussion closed when Mr. G. J. Bayley suggested that all climbers should produce medical certificates.
