BUTTER MARKET EASIER. LONDON DEMAND SLOW. A further decline in the London butter market last week reduced the price of New Zealand salted on Friday to 80s to 81s, a fall of 3s to 4s a cwt. on the week. The general demand was slow, deliveries .of New Zealand butter being 1908 tons, compared with 2345 tons for the previous week, and Australian deliveries 2366 tons, as against 2629 tons. The quantity of New Zealand butter in store, including 347 tons ex the Rangitata, was 5681 tons, compared with 7064 tons at the end of the previous week, and 8036 tons a year ago. Australian butter in store was 2718 tons, compared with 3369 tons at the end of the previous week and 6235 tons a year ago. Retail prices in London are unchanged at Is 2d a lb. for Danish and lid for New Zealand. The Opawa, which sailed from Wellington on Thursday, took 34,362 boxes of butter for New York. The Dairy Board’s London office reports Friday’s official closing quotations as follow, those for the previous week being shown in parentheses:— BUTTER. New Zealand, salted, 80s to 81s, ex. 82s (83s to 85s; March 1, 1934, 70s to 71s); 80s to 81s equals approximately 9.28 d f.o.b. Unsalted, 88s to 90s (90s to 925; March 1, 1934, 70s to 725). Australian, salted, 80s to 81s (82s to 84s); unsalted, 86s to 88s (88s to 90s). Deliveries, Australian, 2366 tons. In store, 2718 tons. Danish, 90s f.0.b.; 112 s spot (90s; 112 s). Dutch, unsalted, 90s to 94s (99s to 107 s). Latvian, unsalted, 90s (955). Polish, salted, 78s to 80s (82s to 84s). ' CHEESE. New Zealand, white 46s to 46s 6d (47s 6d to 48s; March 1, 1934, 42s 6d to 435); coloured, 46s to 46s 6d (47s to 48s; March 1, 1934, 45s to 45s 6d); 46s to 46s 6d is equivalent to 4.92 d a lb., f.o.b. Deliveries, New Zealand, 15,582 crates. In store, 125,708 crates, includes 11,720 crates ex Rangitata. Australian, white, 42s to 44s (465); coloured, 45s (45s to 465). Canadian, white, 60s to 62s (60s); coloured, 60s to 62s (60s to 625). Deliveries, Canadian, 5373 boxes. In store, 95 897 boxes English, finest farmers, 82s to 90s (82s to 90s; factory cheese, 43s to 46s (41s to 48s).

MINIMUM PRICES. -

The Dairy Board has fixed the minimum prices for f.o.b. and c.i.f. sales of dairy produce on the basis of 9 5-8 d a lb. for butter and 54d for cheese. These prices, which are subject to agent’s selling commission of 11 per cent., are equivalent to 78s 9d a cwt., c.i.f.e., for butter, and 45s lid c.i.f.e., for cheese.
