DENTAL TREATMENT

MANAIA CENTRE COMMITTEE. NEW METHOD OF CONTROL. A meeting of the Manaia residents was held for the purpose of forming a committee from representatives of school committees whose children attend the clinic. Mr. D. Wards presided. Those present were Messrs. O. T. Parry, G. Butler, H. Silby (Manaia), S. Le Fleming (Otakeho), D. Wards (Okaiawa), P. Hall (Auroa) and J. W. Welham (KaE). The dental nurse, Miss G. Mci, was also in attendance.

Mr. Parry, chairman of the Manaia committee, said that the Manaia school committee had appointed a sub-commit-tee to conduct the clinic, but now it was advisable to form a separate committee from representatives of the schools attending the clinic as the burden was becoming too great for Manaia to manage. The following officers were elected: Chairman, the Rev. R. Miller; deputychairman, Mr. D. Wards; secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. Butler; committee, Messrs. O. T. Parry, P. Instone, H. Silby, P. Hall, S. Le Fleming and J. W. Welham. Nurse McLean submitted a report covering her work during the month. She said that many parents were not aware that children ‘ under . school age from four years could be admitted and treated at the clinic. ■ She hoped there would be an increase of under-school-age patients.

The subscription was fixed. at 3s per child. The Taranaki Education Board wrote enclosing a plan of additions which will take place to the dental clinic—a nurse’s room and a parents’ waiting room. The board will supply, the timber, but the clinic committee will have to find the money for labour. It was decided to ask the board to erect the additions. It was stated that Oeo and Pihama schools intended to join the Manaia clinic. They are to be approached and asked if they intend to join, and to send representatives to the committee.
