Unceasing for 96 hours, a tropical deluge has caused phenomenal floods on the North Queensland coast from Mossman to Ingham, a distance of 200 miles. The whole countryside, including the town of Cairns, is flooded. Hundreds of head of stock were drowned and many people were forced to leave their homes, some being rescued by the police. Cairns had 44 inches of rain this week. Innisfail is isolated, with the Johnstone River in high flood. Tully recorded 37 inches of rain in three days. Much damage was done to the sugar cane crops.
