WEST END BEATS PARK TARANAKI SHIELD COMPETITION. KERN GAME AT STRATFORD. Playing under ideal conditions on the Avon green which, though somewhat slow, was as smooth and true as could be desired, the West End Bowling Club (winner, of the northern, division in the Taranaki shield event) secured a narrow victory over Park (Hawera), winner of the southern division, and thus earned the right to play off with the winner of the central versus western division semifinal for the club premiership of Taranaki. .

THOMAS ELTHAM CHAMPION. LAST BOWL DECIDES MATCH. R. E. Thomas was the winner of the Eltham Club’s singles championship. He defeated Drabble on Saturday by 19 to 16' in the final. . . The first semi-final between Drabole (two lives) and Jones (one life) resulted in the defeat of Drabble by 18 to 13. This left Jones, Drabble and Thomas in the competition, and the next draw gave Thomas a bye. In the second match Drabble beat Jones by 22 to 16, after holding the lead throughout. The final between Thomas and Drabble was an interesting game, Thomas’ last bowl deciding the match. Thomas won the first seven heads in succession and gathered 11 points before Drabble, who could not adapt himself to the tricky green, commenced to score. From this stage Drabble commenced to score freely and got three twos and two threes. Thomas added three ones and two twos by the 19th. head, then having a lead of 18—15. Scoring one on the 20th., Thdmas put Drabble in the position of wanting four to tie. • The final head was exciting. Drawing in good style Drabble lay four up when Thomas had one bowl in hand. CHITTENDEN’S NARROW WIN. ;£ - ' The final of the Waitara Bowling Club singles championship, between H. J. Chittenden (two lives) and W. R. Fuller (one life) was decided on Saturday afternoon. The game was very evenly contested, and the issue was in doubt until the last bowl was played, when Chittenden won. Fuller opened the score with a one. At the fourth head the score was twoall. For the next four heads Chittenden had the advantage, gaining a seven to five lead. Fuller scored two on the next head, bringing the scores to sevenmil. On the next four heads Chittenden scored three singles and a three, bringing his' lead to 13 to 7. Fuller in the next three heads had two fours and two, Chittenden scoring a two on the 17th. to make the score 15-all. Fuller scored one on the 18th. and Chittenden two on the 19th., taking the lead by one. Fuller scored one on the 20th., bringing the score to 17-all, with one head to play. Chittenden drew a good shot on the last
