KAPONGA WINS AGAIN POWER BOARD DEFEATED. ROSS EDEN'S FINE INNINGS. Kaponga had little difficulty in defeating Power Board at Kaponga. With six wickets down tor 205 runs the innings was declared closed. After contributing a valuable innings of 94 runs, Ross Eden was run out, but not before he and Dormer, who made 44 runs, had been associated in a useful partnership. Power Board could only reach the moderate total of 126, chiefly through the efforts of Lendrum, Galyer and Geary. Three Kaponga wickets had fallen for a small total before Ross Eden and Dormer became associated and carried the score well on before they were separated. Busing added 17 and Pascoe was unbeaten with 18. The scoring batsmen scored freely off the tour bowlers, Of whom the most successful was Lendrum; who bowled the most overs. Partnerships between Geary and Lendrum and Geary and Galyer were the high-lights of Power Board’s innings. After Sargeson had gone with only a few runs on the board, Lendrum made the pace a merry one while Geary plodded along more steadily. Lendrum’s total of 30 comprised two sixes and four fours. Hughes 18 made a good stand, but it was left to Geary, who opened and saw eight batsmen out, and Galyer to be associated in a second prolific partnership. Reg. Eden and Dormer each took two wickets, but Pascoe, who came on to bowl late in the innings, did most damage. He secured three wickets for six runs from two overs, one of which was a maiden. OLD BOYS ROUTS HAWERA W. BARKER’S UNBEATEN CENTURY. STURROCK’S SPLENDID DOUBLE. Mainly through the efforts of W. Barker and C. Sturrock, Hawera Old Boys replied with 254 runs to Hawera’s 68 at Hawera, thus winning by 186 runs on the first innings., Hawera batted first but the opening was poor. The first wicket fell for two runs and the next two were down with rhe score only 14. Six wickets had been lost for 27 runs, when Fleet made a stand and the score improved, but the tail wagged ineffectively c.nd the innings closed for 68, Fleet contributing 26. The bowling of Sturrock and Thomas was destructive, particularly that of the former, who captured six wickets at a cost of 19 runs off nine overs, three of which were maidens. Thomas had just under seven overs, and took four wickets for 22 runs. Old Boys’ opening was not auspicious; three wickets had fallen for 95 runs when Sturrock joined W. Barker, who was batting steadily. The pair carried the score along at a fairly rapid rate and added 120 for the partnership. Both played attractive cricket, Barker retiring with 103 to his credit and Sturrock reaching 69. The latter scored at a faster rate than Barker for the larger part of his innings, and it was thought at one stage that he would reach his clubmate’s tally, but his rate of scoring diminished later in his innings. Thrush and H. Barker were the only other double-figure scorers. Every man in the Hawera team was given a turn with the ball, but Penny and Fleet shared the honours, the former taking five wickets for 48 runs and the latter three for 25. Details are:— HAWERA.
