The Oakura school held its “Learn to Bwim” week at the Oakura River where the headmistress, Mrs. Beale and MrsTills took them in hand with the result that over two-thirds of the children can - bow swim. Certificates for swimming were earned by: One and a half miles, Peggy Beale; 440 yards, Norah Bell; 220 yards, Maisie Drake, Nola Jury, Loma Drake, Ruth Beale, Don Smith, Pat Thomas and Vernon Mangino; 100 yards, jack Hau, Athol Tills, Errol ManginO, Mick Thomas, Ronald Jans; 50 yards, Greta Clark, Marjorie Goodwin, Jean Cochran, Royce Price, Ray Press and Fred Moorcock; 25 yards, Mavis Samson, JBarrie -Tills, Pat Hughes, Gordon and .Harry Shirley. . .j., ..
