ADVICE OF TRANSFER

WAITARA SCHOOL HEAD TEACHER. GENERAL AND PERSONAL NEWS. The headmaster of the Waitara primary school, Mr. F. R. Bullen, owing to the Waitara school having risen in grade, has received advice that he will be transferred from Waitara early next year. The school to which Mr. Bullen is to be transferred will not be known for some time.

Scouts’ Church Parade. About 50 members of the Waitara Boy Scouts and Cubs troops, together with seven officers, held a church parade on Sunday, marching in uniform to the Methodist Church for the evening service. The church was crowded and the preacher, the Rev. W. B. Cuming, delivered a helpful address to the boys. An anthem was rendered by the choir. Fire Brigade Competition. The annual competition for the Andrews Challenge Cup (presented by Mrs. L. Andrews) was held by the Waitara Fire Brigade on the camp reserve on Sunday morning. Ten members of the brigade took part. The competition was a one-man dry event, results of which were: Fireman W. Terrill (Is), gross time 335, 1; Fireman E. Thomas (4s), gross time 38 3-ss, 2; Fireman E. Procter (2s), gross time 38 3-ss, 3. Fireman Terrill will hold the challenge cup for the year- and will receive a miniature silver cup.

Death of Mrs. Harrison. Word was received at Waitara yesterday of the death of Mrs. Mary Ellen Harrison. Her husband, the Rev. C. F. R. Harrison, was vicar of St. John’s Church, Waitara, until he by Archdeacon G. H. Gavin. Mrs. Harrison leaves a husband, two daughters and one son.

Maori Mission Mart. A successful mart in aid of the Waitara Maori Mission Sunday school was held in McLean Street on Saturday. Miss Heath, the missioner, was in charge and was assisted by Maoris connected with the mission work. Over £5 was taken, which was considered most satisfactory.
