BOROUGH ROADING
NEW PLYMOUTH PROPOSALS. IMPROVEMENT TO EGMONT STREET Reading works projected by the New Plymouth Borough Council in the immediate future include the widening and surfacing of a portion of the eastern side of Carrington Road and the widening of the carriage way to the kerb of the same street from Pendarves Street to Vivian Street. The estimated cost of the work is £132 6s. The work of re-grading Shortland Street, Vogeltown, will be gazetted by the council as developmental work which, in the ordinary course of events would not have been undertaken for many years to come, and relief labour will be employed on it. A considerable improvement will also be made shortly to the eastern side of Egmont Street between Devon and King Streets. The width of the footpath will be reduced from 12 feet to 10 feet and the corners will be rounded off to improve visibility. The work, however, will not be proceeded with until the owners of a building in the locality are ready to cut back their verandah. They will be served with a formal notice of the council's intention.
