NEW PLYMOUTH HARRIERS
RUN FROM VOGELTOWN SCHOOL. There was an attendance of 18 runners at the Vogeltown school on Saturday afternoon when the New Plymouth Harrier Club met for the weekly run. There was only one pack, controlled by the club captain, R. J. Stewart. R. Richards and F. White were the pacemakers. The course taken was through the Huatoki domain, up Doralto Road and then across country in a southerly direction to Carrington Road, which was reached at Ratanui Hill. The road was then followed for a short distance before a halt was called. A run-in to the school followed over the last mile and a-half. J. Haymer and H. Hopkins were the first home. The distance of the run was about five and a-half miles. Afterwards Messrs. C. H. Croker and E. J. Hutchinson spoke to the runners on training, Mr. Hutchinson’s remarks being addressed mainly to those runners who are competing in the New Zealand crosscountry championships at Dunedin on September 15, and to those who are likely to comprise the teams for the MartonWanganui relay race to be held later in the season. Following is a list of fixtures for the next few weeks: September - 15, Moturoa; September 22, Fitzroy beach; September 29, Waitara Road race; October 6, Westown; October 13, Graham Cup.
