JEWISH ANCESTRY DENIED

SIR JOHN SIMON’S STATEMENT. REASONS FOR HIS DELAY. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 7 p.m. London, Aug. 4. Sir John Simon (British Foreign Minister) has issued a denial of statements that he is Jewish and allegations that his ancestry influenced the foreign policy of the National Government. Sir John emphasised that he had not denied the rumours earlier as the denial might have been distorted into evidence that he sympathises with anti-Semitism. “I have Jewish friends whose patriotic services should shame the critics,” said Sir John. “I would not for worlds hurt their feelings or write as though their ancient and honourable lineage could possibly be a matter of reproach.”
