CHINESE PIRATES
SEIZURE OF A SHIP. PRISONERS CARRIED AWAY. Harbin, Jan. 6. News of the capture of a steamer by Chinese pirates, and the murder of the captain’s wife by Chinese bandits, has just reached Harbin. The steamer, of Manchukuo registry, was on the River Amur, which divides Manchukuo from Siberia, when a group of Chinese bandits, who had boarded the vessel as passengers, rushed into the captain’s cabin, where there was a safe containing a large sum of money. When the captain offered resistance the bandits fired several shots, severely wounding him and killing his wife. They stole the safe, and started to rob the passengers. When three resisted they were shot down, as were three sailors.
The bandits then forced the pilot .to take the vessel to the Manchukuo side of the river, where they disembarked, together with 13 Manchukuo merchants and a Japanese passenger, who are now being held to ransom.
