GIRLS AND BOYS

INTERESTING COMPARISONS. VARIED CHARACTERISTICS. London, Jan. 2. “The sexes are equal in height up to 11 years of age. Girls are taller than boys between 11 and 14 years, but afterwards boys become steadily taller than girls.” These are among the conclusions of Miss R. M. Fleming, of the British Medical Research Council. She has made

14 years’ continuous records of the growth of 2219 boys and 2073 girls attending nearly 40 schools in England and Wales. Among Miss Fleming's other conclusions are that girls generally are darker than boys, but that red hair is found oftener among boys than girls. Boys generally have bigger heads than girls at all ages. Miss Fleming also records that between the ages of nine and 11 boys often go' through a phase of “liking to help at home,-” and shrinking from physical sport.
