WAVERLEY TENNIS CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING HEBD. The annual general meeting of the Waverley Lawn Tennis and Croquet Association was held on Thursday, Dr. Graves presiding over a good attendance. \ The report stated that the membership of the combined club showed a slight decrease, chiefly on the croquet side. The total subscriptions were approximately the same as last year, due to an increase in the men players. Compared with other clubs the club was still in a strong position numerically. In the Season 1930-31 the subscription was reduced as the committee considered it could work on a credit balance brought forward from previous years. The reduced subscription also operated last season. It became obvious before the close of the season that if the' lawns were to be kept in proper order further funds would have to be found. A large amount of work was done on the courts and croquet lawns, chiefly by a few energetic members assisted by the Domain Board. One team entered in the South Taranaki inter-club competition but owing to wet week-ends the competition was abandoned. Several friendly matches were played with neighbouring club. The report was adopted and the following new members were elected: Mesdames Shearman, Vickers and Fitzgibbons, Misses Shearman (2), G. Mathieson, J. Alexander, N. Lupton and T. Aiken, Messrs. N. Bromiley and I. Wells.

The following officers were elected: President, Dr. Graves; vice-presidents, Miss Chupe and Mr. F. Hopkinseh; secretary and treasurer, J. H. Cowdell; general committee, Mrs. Muir, Miss A. Graham, Messrs. A. Dickie, D. Craig, S. Gardiner, C. Dickie and P. Christensen; grounds committee, Messrs. Cowdell, D. Dickie, E. Dickie and D. Craig; clubcaptain, Mr. A. Dickie; vice-club-captain, Mr. D. Craig; hon. auditor, Mr. G. H. Graham; delegate to Taranaki Lawn Tennis Association, Mr. D. Ballantyne; croquet committee, Misses Cheyne and Lupton, Mesdames Muir, R. P. Palmer, Beer, Bromiley and Pepper; ladder committee, Misses M. Alexander and A. Graham, Messrs. Cowdell and A Dickie; tea committee, Mrs. Muir and Mips Barrow.

Opening day was fixed for November

Discussion took place over subscriptions, it being generally agreed that the present subscription was comparatively low when it was remembered that it covered supply of tennis balls and afternoon tea. The subscriptions decided upon were slightly higher than last year’s. " u
