CIRCULAR ROAD RACE.
RACECOURSE ATTRACTIONS. Arrangements are well in hand for £ programme of boxing and wrestling <*■£ the New Plymouth racecourse on Saturday afternoon. The first mountain race, rider is expected to arrive at approximately 4 p.m., and prior to this, com- ! mencing at 1.30 p.m., patrons will be entertained with boxing and wrestling bouts on the lawn, and hunters’ jumping i events on the course proper, and child-., ren’s races will also be conducted, j The. officials appointed for the boxing and wrestling are: Announcer, boxing and wrestling, Mr. W. Roebuck; referees, Wr. L. McAsey (boxing) and B. Sturm (wr&- . tling); ring stewards, Messrs R. Harvey,. H. Kay, R. Wilson and G. Tippins. The boxing matches are:—P. Huzziff 9st 21b v. W. Coombes (New Plymouth);-? 9st 61b, L. Huzziff (Tariki) Bst 121 b v. T. Ryan (Omata) Sst 121 b. Wrestling matches (one may have to be postponed until Labour Day):—R. Jenkins v. A. Hawkins, C. Hawkins v. J..'-. Julian, A. Weir v. N. Williams, J. Beasley v. L. Reid. The bouts will commence at 1.30 p.m. and contestants will report for medical examination on the morning of the race. At a meeting of the executive on Tuesday evening final arrangements were made for the conducting of the big race. It was decided to allot a further £2 10s for the hunters’ events. Three cups have already been procured for these events, one being donated by Mr. B. Tippins. Mr. Rex Browne was added to the list of road stewards and Mr. J. Hawkins was appointed call steward. An application was received and granted for permission to have stands at the racecourse. Arrangements were made for progress reports to be broadcast, and the winners will be asked to speak from 2YB on Saturday evening. Unemployed are to be admitted to the racecourse at half price. Mr. J. Norris was appointed in charge of blackboards and Mr. W. Remington was appointed to assist Mr. Day and Mr. H. Way at the Avenue Road gate. It „.g was decided to procure metal numbers to attach to competitors’ cycles, and Mr. Gable was appointed official in charge of ' • affixing these to the machines. Messrs' J. Norris- and C. Area were appointed assistant time recorders.
