WOMAN’S FALSE PRETENCE
HER “FOOLISH” DECLARATION.
ADMISSION TO PROBATION.
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Oamaru, Last Night.
- Cicely King pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to-day to a charge of attempting to obtain £25 5s from, the National Insurance Company by false pretence. The evidence disclosed that her furniture was held under a hire purchase agrement, but King made a declaration that no other persons had an interest in the furniture, later admitting that certain articles had been sold before a fire, destroyed the house and contents. * An assessor’s list valued the furniture at £259 and the insurance was £2OO. As a result of King’s action she lost all the insurance. x The magistrate (Mr. H. W. Bundle) said King acted in a very foolish way. He was unable to think the case was one calling for imprisonment. King elected to be dealt with summarily and was convicted and admitted to probation for twelve months. She was ordered to pay the expenses of the prosecution, £6 18s 9d.
