ORIGINAL “TRILBY” DEAD

MRS. H. B. IRVING’S CAREER.

By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright

London, September 25. The death has occurred of Mrs. H. B. Irving, the original “Trilby.”

Mrs. Irving will be remembered for the stage creation of Du Maurier’s “Trilby” at the Haymarket in 1895, a year before she married the late Mr. Henry Irving, eldest son of Sir Henry Irving. She was the daughter of a barrister and followed the stage as a career for 18 years until 1912, when she left it. Mrs. Irving then devoted herself to infant welfare work, being associated with the National Baby Week Council as secretary and other organisations dealing with mothers and infants.
