CARE OF CRIPPLES
MOVEMENT FOR ROTARY. DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S APPEAL. Hamilton, September 25. A welcome was given Mr. T. C. List, district governor of Rotary for New Zealand, by members of the Hamilton Rotary Club to-day. In an address to the club Mr. List made a strong appeal to all Rotarians to interest themselves in the crippled children of the country. The care of crippled children would be his policy during his year of officej he said, and before definite plans were submitted he asked the Hamilton members to obtain information of the crippled children of the district and to consider schemes for developing their mental and spiritual welfare.
Mr. List said he desired to see as many of these children as possible absorbed in industry and an interest taken in their welfare. He referred to the work that was being done for cripples in America, and quoted instances of successful surgical treatment that was being given them in New Zealand. The speaker asked Rotarians to pool their resources and endeavour to devise suggestions which would help the Government in solving the unemployment problem, especially as far as it concerned young people. The Americans, he said„ were tremendously interested when he told them of the work 8f Mr. D. V. Bryant and Mr. H. Valder, of Hamilton.
Referring to his experiences in America, Mr. List said America entertained a very high opinion of New Zealanders as the result of their contact with Dominion soldiers and visiting Rotarians. A great work had been done by Mr. F. Milner in placing before Americans in a series of wonderful addresses the viewpoint of Great Britain toward world affairs. His address at the Boston conference, at which 10,000 Rotarians were present, was the outstanding feature of the conference. Mr. Milner was received with tremendous enthusi- , asm and he made a profound impression.
