AN OH UR A INCIDENT.
. (To. the Editor.) Sir,—A matter that has caused quite a stir amongst the fanning community of the Ohura district lately was the action of a certain local body in seizing a wireless set, under a distress warrant, from a well-known pioneer settler of the district for non-payment of his rates. The sequel should be of still greater interest to the farmers of this province and -the Dominion generally. The wireless set, together with loud-speaker and batteries complete, was put up to public auction at Ohura before a large gathering of farmers, and others from all parts of the district, and was absolutely boycotted, the only bid being one of 2s 6d on behalf of the wife of the owner. Ohura farmers deserve very high commendation for the example they have shown of unity and loyalty to one of their comrades in distress. It is to be hoped that the incident will not be without its lesson, and that such proceedings, at- a time when most farmers are having a hard struggle to feed and clothe themselves and their families, will cease.—l am, etc., AVANT COUREUR. Ohura, September 25.
