CANARIES AND CAGE BIRDS
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB MEETING. PREPARATION FOR COMING SHOW. Preparations for next year’s shows to be held by the New Plymouth Canary and Cage Bird Club were made at a meeting of the executive on Thursday night. Those present were Messrs. G. Fleming (chairman), G. V. Lambert, E. R Looney, H. Pote, G. McKenzie, E. Beale, R. Rae and F. Stansfield (secretary).A letter was received from the New Zealand Federation of Cage Birds requesting applications for show dates and judges. It was decided to apply for May 31 and June 1, 1934, for the annual show, and for Mr. S. A. Woods (Auckland) to judge the canaries (-Yorkshire and Norwich) and Mr. G. Rowland Hutchinson (Auckland) for British birds, mules and hybrids, foreign birds and budgerigars. Donations of hams, flour, and quarter of a ton of coal were received as prizes for competitions in aid of the club funds, It was reported that two additional sil< ver cups had been donated for competition at the club shows, and that Mr. J. H. Aitchinson, Auckland, had donated three Yorkshire hens for disposal in aid of the club funds. It was decided to confine the Club Breeders’ Stakes competition to Yorkshire and Norwich canaries, and it was explained that sealed rings were due early in September. A silver cup has been donated for the Stakes. In this competition the birds are rung in the nest at three or four days old. Nominations close early in the year and acceptances in May. The draft balance-sheet was approved for submission to the annual meeting.
