ACTIVITY IN BUILDING

POSITION AT NEW PLYMOUTH. EFFECT. OF SUBSIDY PLAN. As predicted earlier in the month, the building activity stimulated by the No. 10 relief scheme has had a noticeable effect on building statistics in the New Plymouth borough in August. There is an increase of some thousands of pounds in the value of the permits issued. The total value of permits issued for the month just ended was £7658, compared with £4379 in August, 1932. No permits were issued for business premises last month but permission was sought for the erection of 11 dwellings (3) and 11 alterations (14). The largest work last month was covered by a permit issued for a residence in Young Street. For the corresponding month of 1932 the only work of any size was the addition to the Christian Science Church, Courtenay Street.
