GRADING REGULATIONS

NO-CONFIDENCE EXPRESSED. HAWKE'S BAY DAIRY COMPANIES. Votes of no-confidence in the Dairy. Division and the milk-grading regulations were passed by meetings of dairy farmers addressed by Mr. P. O. Veale : at Dannevirke and -Woodville last week. At Woodville on Friday night Mr. Veale addressed a meeting of the federated dairy companies ,of the BushHorowhenua district called specially to protest-against the non-enactment of the N.D.A. remit dealing with milk grading. ; Among the speakers was Mr. L. Heayns, of the Pahiatua factory, a well-known cheesemaker and a successful exhibitor of show cheese, who condemned the curd test and emphasised the value of the microscopic count and methylene blue methods. He also read resolutions passed by the Bush District Factory Manager’s Association condemning the Governments adoption of the curd test. The meeting adopted a resolution stating that, in the belief that the Dairy Division had made a grave and fundamental mistake in forcing the curd test upon the industry, and acting upon the advice of independent scientists and the Bush and Wairarapa District Factory Managers’ Association, it demanded the right to grade milk by either of the two . scientific tests. . About 100 suppliers of the Taranaki and neighbouring dairy companies unanimously adopted a vote of no-confide®®# at Dannevirke.
