PARLIAMENT IN AUGUST
EARLIER SESSION POSSIBLE MR. FORBES’ RETURN INDEFINITE. PRELIMINARIES COULD BE DONE. a BUDGET NOT BEFORE HIS ARRIVAL. (By Wire—Special to News.) Wellington, Last Night When the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, ' Prime Minister, left New Zealand to attend the World Economic Conference it was stated that the next session of Parliament would riot begin until late in September, but there is reason to believe that Parliament may be called together at an earlier date. It is suggested that members may be asked to assemble at Wellington at the end of August. . .... No information has been received by the Government as to the possible date of the return of Mr. Forbes, but he is hardly likely to leave England until a few weeks after the closing of the conference. It is stated, however, that Mr. Forbes/ absence will not necessarily delay the opening of the session as it is considered that' a great deal of the, preliminary work of the session could be completed before his return. This preliminary work would probably include the Address-in-Reply debate and some necessary legislation. The Budget is not likely to be introduced until Mr. Forbes has returned, as this document, naturally deals with major points of Government policy.
