TIKORANGI DISTRICT'NEWS

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE MEETS. The Tikorangi Women’s Institute held their monthly meeting in the hall on Tuesday afternoon, when ap average attendance of members was present, also a number of visitors. The afternoon was devoted to euchre, the funds from which are to be given, to the Taranaki Federation, this being the institute's annual effort. The prizes were won by Mrs. A. Beaven 1 and Mrs. T. Hine 2. The second prize was won after a play-off with Mrs. C. Ritchie and Mrs. R. Langley. The competition for the best article or articles from material not costing more than Is drew an excellent number of entries. The judges were Mesdaqws T. Jury, McKay, H. Cole and Miss N. Lapgley. The prizes were awarded to Mrs. C, Sarten (best plain article), and Mrs. J. Garner (best fancy article). The dainty afternoon tea tables were arranged by the hostesses, Mesdames ; A. Allen, R. Morey and O. Hicks, with vases of spring bulbs, daphne, violets and greenery. ; During tea the president, Mrs. Morey, made a short speech, on behalf of the institute members, farewelling two well respected and valuable meinbcrsa H. Cole and Miss N. Langley. In presenting a bronze and copper vase to Mrs* H. Cole Mrs. Morey said how much she would be missed by. the institute, and hoped in their new home in the Waikato that she would be happy and prosperous. Mrs. Cole briefly replied. Te Miss Langley a leather-bound autograph album, suitably inscribed and signed by members, was presented by the president. Miss Langley also replied. After the presentations musical honours were accorded the departing members, who will be greatly missed by the institute, of which they have always been very keen members. . .... A lucky number competition, which has been running for some time, the prize for which was a pen-painted throw-over donated by' Mrs- A. Whitehead, was drawn during the afternoon, the lucky Zber 13 being drawn by Mrs. T. Hine. The money from this effort is _ also to be donated to the Taranaki federation. The euchre prizes were donated by Mrs. I. Vickery and Mrs. A. Whitehead. On Friday night the members of the Tikorangi card teams motored to Lepperton, where they were defeated by the home teams. The games resulted: Cribbage, Lepperton 27, Tikorangi 21, uchre, Lepperton 29, Tikorangi 11. Miss Mollie Wells, Hawera, is vising Tikorangi, and is guest of Mrs. H. Sarten. Mr. J. Hills has returned from Patea. Miss L. Fletcher, who has been Mrs. A. Whitehead’s visitor, returns to New Plymouth to-morrow. . Mrs. L. Lye, who entered a private hospital in New Plymouth at the beginning df the week, is reported to be progressing satisfactorily. IVliss D. Paulger has returned from a holiday in Napier.
