KAIMATA GENERAL NEWS

BASKETBALL MATCHES. The Kaimata school basketball team on Wednesday yisited Norfolk Road to meet the Tariki school team in the final for the divisional championship. Tariki won a very strenuous game by 10 goals to 6. The Kaimata scorers were P. Blackboum (four goals), T. Dravitzski and D. Chapman. The Midhirst senior basketball team visited Kaimata on Thursday afternoon to play its fixture with the local team. The game commenced at a brisk pace, the ball travelling quickly from end to end of the court. After several attempts by both sides Midhirst succeeded in scoring the first goal. Kaimata then attacked strongly but the home goal-throwers were not in form and much fine work by tlie centres and defenders went for nothing. The half-time scores were Midhirst 3, Kaimata 2. After the interval Kaimata strove for the mastery and the pace was clapped on by both teams. Kaimata soon drew level but Midhirst retaliated with a further goal. Until the scores were five all the game was in doubt, but the pace was beginning to tell. As the game progressed the visiting forwards improved in their . goalthrowing, making the most of their opportunities, but the home forwards though having many chances could do nothing with the ball. In the dying stages of the game Midhirst proved to be in better condition and dominated the game. The final scores were Midhirst 11, Kaimata 5. Miss M. K. Hewes was rofercc. Mr. and Mrs. I.
