LARGE INCREASE IN PRODUCTION SHIPMENT FROM NEW PLYMOUTH ALL SENT BY THE DIRECT ROUTE A LARGE increase in the amount of dairy produce shipped from the Port A of New Plymouth during the 12 months ending on June 30 tert.is revealed in the official figures from the Taranaki Producers Freezing Company,. Limited, when comparisons are made with the previous year. During Ji 1932-33 season 338,245 boxes of butter and 277,600 crates of cheese were shipped. That represents an increase of 33,049 boxes of butter and 35,797 crates of over last year’s shipments, when the respective totals were 305,196 boxes of , butter and 241,803 crates of cheese. The increase m the shipments of butter is 10.86 per cent., and that in the shipments of cheese 14.80 per cent. All the produce was again forwarded direct to Britain, as been the ease for several years past. The number of vessels which loaded at New Plymouth last season was 44, the same as in the 1931-32 season Fifteen vessels carried butter to west of England ports, compared with 12. last year, but the consignments were smaller on the average, with the result that butter' to these ports decreased from 47,595 boxes to 44,a09-boxes, a fall of 3086 boxes Fourteen ships carried, cheese to the west coast ports, compared with 121 last season, and there was an increase of 7326 in the number of crates shipped, the totals being 59,442 for last season and 52,116 for the previous The large increase in trade with west coast ports that was a feature of the previous season was not at all maintained during the season just ended. All shipments to London reveal considerable increases. The quantity of butter consigned to London this year-293,736 an increase of 36,135 boxes over the. 257,601 boxes last season, and the quantity of cheese-218,158 crates—an increase of 28,471 crates over the 189,687 crates last season.
