STRATFORD HOSPITAL BEQUEST.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l noticed in your columns a short time ago that £250 had been left to the Stratford Hospital Board to be used at the board’s discretion. I have noticed proposals for pillars at the gate, a glasshouse, a free ambulance, and a sun porch on the isolation ward. Some of these are certainly good suggestions, but how about thinking of most of the suffering first, and making their term in hospital as short as possible? This could be done by erecting a sitting room for the main hospital. What could be more necessary than comfort for patients who are allowed up? At present there is no fire and howhere to, spend any leisure except the sun porch. Imagine sitting there when it is raining, or with a cold southerly blowing! I have heard it said many times in the wards: “I could have got. up to-day but I am more comfortable in bed.” I consider that if the hospital board has the wants of the suffering at heart it will give this proposal the consideration the suffering deserve.—l am, etc., ONE OF THE PUBLIC. Matau, July 16. '
