PUKEARUHE DISTRICT NEWS

GOOD CRIBBAGE EVENING. There was a good attendance at the cribbage evening last week. The prize was won by Mr. V. Evans. The annual meeting of the hall committee was held recently. The report and balance-sheet showed only £l5 owing on the building; a satisfactory position. The retiring committee was reelected. New Euchre Series Begins.

A new series of euchre evenings commenced on Wednesday. The attendance was good, a number attending from outside districts. The light'recently installed in the supper room was appreciated. The ladies’ prize was won by Miss M. Luxton, 8j games, after a play-off with Mrs. R. Luxton. Mr. T. Martin won the men’s prize. The points prizes were won by Mrs. L. Herbert and Mr. P. Carey. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mrs. G. Smith, Miss E. Chapman played the extras. Mr, V. Wills was master of ceremonies, •/ School Court Progress.

Further work was done on the school tennis court site by a working-bee held on Thursday. The ground is now ready for concreting, which it is hoped to do at an early date. Bible Class Started.

The Rev. G. Skuse has inaugurated a Bible class which meets fortnghtly at Mrs. Cocker’s residence. The first meeting was held last week.

Personal Items. Mr. and Mrs. T. Welch, Wanganui, spent a few days with Mrs. A. Cocker. Mrs. Claude Lambert is staying with relatives at Puniho. Mr. and Mrs. N. Shogren are on annual holiday. The factory is being managed by Mr. C. Jones. Miss L. Wells is spending a holiday at Eltham. Miss Eunice Wells left for Auckland and Hamilton on a holiday visit. Mr. and Mrs. Ward, Christchurch, now reside at Pukearuhs.
