AIDING EX-SERVICEMEN
RENDEZVOUS FOR WORK. There is an ex-servicemen’s rendezvous in Liverpool which strangely enough, has no billiards table, no cardroom, and no bar. It is intended for work only. Derby House is the headquarters of the Liverpool branch of the British' Legion, and everyone of the 1500 or 1600 members is pledged to the service of distressed ex-soldiers and sailors, and their dependents. When the members plan a social function they take it c®ewhere. According to the trust deed Derby House is “in tribute to the unselfish service at all times rendered to the exservice community,” by Lord Co-ordinating the efforts of 14. different centres, the “House” is watching the interests of Liverpool’s 80,000 ex-service men, of whom 30.000 are unemployed. Last year the branch's employment bureau placed one man in a job every day.
