' Mrs. D. J. Thomas is spending a holiday at Wellington.

The Misses B. Delatour and M. Morgan (Opunake hospital) have been advised that they have passed the State examination for maternity nurses.

Miss Taylor, who was until recently in charge of the Waiteika School, has been appointed to the Te Kiri school. She went to live in the Te Kiri schoolhouse last week.

Mrs. E. Craighead was hostess at afternoon tea on Thursday.

Mrs. J. P. Burton spent a few days this week at Kaponga with her daughter, Mrs. R. E. McGregor. " Mrs. C. A. Smith was hostess at a four of bridge on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. K. Henderson (Mangahume) was hostess at afternoon tea on Thursday. Miss A. McCrae, Opunake District High School, has been granted leave on account of ill-health. She will leave for her home at Dimedin as soon as her health permits. Miss M. McLellan has taken Miss McCrae’s place at the High School, and Miss Hay has been appointed to the primary school, in place of Miss .McLellan.

A team of lady golfers went to Stratford on Wednesday to play the local club. Although unsuccessful, the Opunake golfers spent a very pleasant day. Mrs. Fryday welcomed the visitors, Mrs. R. J. Morris returning thanks on behalf of the Opunake team, which comprised Mesdames R. Morris, Brennan; Fraser, Ewart, Stephenson, the Misses Lewis, Trotter, Hinch, Feaver and A. Smith. A pantry afternoon in honour of Miss Alma Mildenhall, who is to be married shortly, was given by the Methodist Ladies’ Guild at the parsonage on Monday. Mrs. A. R. Penn, president of the guild, was hostess. Competitions and games were followed by afternoon tea.
