ESCAPE OF TWO REPORTED.
JAPANESE AUTHORITIES ACTING.

Questioned regarding the latest information concerning the three British officers who • were kidnapped from the steamer Nanchang off the Manchukuo Coast, Mr. R. A. Eden, Foreign Under-Secretary, said that he was informed that the Japanese authorities were taking .steps against "bandits generally in the district where these officers were held captives..
According to a report not yet confirmed, two of the officers escaped on July 7, and efforts were being made to locate them and rescue the other captive also. The British Consular representative had impressed on the authorities concerned the danger of direct military action against their captors. . „
