APPEAL FOR RELIEF CAMPERS
PARTY OF “NOBODY’S CHILDREN.”
PLIGHT OF WAIHI CAMP.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, July 14.
“They appear to be nobody’s children,” said Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P., today, referring to 25 Wellington men in a Public Works camp at Whangamata Road, Waihi. The men, he said, were in urgent need of clothes and boots, but neither the Auckland nor Wellington organisations could do anything for them. Auckland’s funds were for men who registered at Auckland, and the Wellington committee said that its activities did not extend beyond Wellington city. Mr. Samuel said that letters he received from the men indicated that they felt they were forgotten by the rest of New Zealand. In an effort to ameliorate their plight slightly he would appeal to the public to contribute playing cards and books.
