GAMBLED AFTER LOSING HOUSE.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, July 13. William Henry Pollock, aged 53, pleaded guilty to-day to charges of stealing £561 from a timber company that employed him as secretary. He was committed for sentence. In a statement to the police Pollock said that after coming from Wellington he had to abandon the house he had been buying there. He lost his equity of about £6OO. At Auckland he found himself in difficulties and after March, 1931, took small sums, most of which he gambled away. His position became gradually worse and he began betting, m bigger sums, but only became deeper involved.
