CARRINGTON ROAD WORK
PUBLIC WORKS IN CHARGE ESTABLISHMENT OF ENCAMPMENT OPERATIONS TO START SHORTLY. Arrangements were set in train yesterday for the establishment of a camp at the Momona stream in connection with the formation work to be undertaken on the upper part of Carrington Road. Public works huts are at the New Plymouth railway station and will be moved to the site immediately. The camp will accommodate about married meh, who will commence work on the four miles section from both ends simultaneously—the Momona stream and the Pietone Road. The Public Works Department is undertaking the formation, culverting, bridging and metalling of the section. The Taranaki County Council is contributing the equivalent of £5OO towards the metalling and the Unployment Board will be responsible for half the cost of the labour. The Public Works Department will find the balance of the money required. Work on the road will start as soon as the camp arrangements are sufficiently advanced for the accommodation of the men.
